Phase Change Material Panel PCM

The research began in 2011, thanks to the funding from the Centro Para el Desarrollo Tecnológico Industrial (CDTI) (Center for Industrial Technological Development) and promoted by Euroamaya. The project´s aim was assembling a prefabricated panel made of biodegradable composites, which had the possibility of incorporating Phase Change Material (PCM) to absorb the temperature changes, especially in climates where increasing the thermal inertia of the built is substantial to achieve energy savings.
As an architect I made several designs for the panel with the collaboration of two industrial engineers. The tests and experimental measures were done at Instituto Torroja using climatic controlled cameras. After several prototypes, one was patented at the Oficina Española de Patentes y Marcas (OEPM) with the reference No: ES1076196.
