TEXT
The project proposes a 25-unit social housing building in Mundaka, designed to overcome the challenges posed by the steep local topography. Through strategic staggering of the volume and the removal of a cube in the northeast corner, 100% of the homes are guaranteed direct sunlight, thus optimising energy efficiency. The design stands out for its compactness and constructive rationality, using prefabricated GRC panels and a 3×3 metre spatial modulation that allows for interior versatility. In addition, the proposal blends into the environment with white façades, Alicante-style wooden shutters and green roofs that minimise visual impact and improve thermal inertia.
From a functional and social point of view, the building prioritises gender perspective and long-term sustainability. Cross ventilation has been promoted in all units, supported by a communal aerothermal system. The homes are designed to be non-hierarchical and transformable, adapting to different family models without wasting space in corridors. Finally, the project is committed to the circular economy by using local suppliers and industrialised systems, which facilitates both rapid assembly and future dismantling or replacement of components at the end of their useful life.
