KNITTING WITH BRICK: BRARY + BUS STATION
We start our proposal for the New Bus Station and M
unicipal Library in Ronda starting from
the humblest architectural element: the brick. The
textile character of their assemblage is
updated using digital tools for positioning, genera
ting lattices by rotating rows .
From the urban point of view, the proposal splits t
he two programs in two separate buildings.
The
Bus Station
is formalized as an L-shaped building. The wing fa
cing the street is where all
the programs that need to be heated are located, wh
ile the second wing is just a canopy where
the waiting area and the load docks are located.
The
Municipal Library
is separated from the Bus Station, due to its nois
e requirements, and
related to the Senior Center and the several of aca
demic buildings located at the north.
The library adapts its section to the site topograp
hy with its two levels, opening its “fingers” at
the top level to the north, forming a semi -courtya
rds facing to the Senior Center Garden . On
the lower level we can find the control access and
the books deposit shelves, illuminated by a
double-height and three courtyards. Upstairs, we ha
ve the reading rooms and the multimedia
projection room, with access to the courts and the
shared garden.
