TEXT
The Elements: Ignis, Aer, Aqua, Terra project proposes a new fire station in Oslo conceived through the four classical elements as an architectural, constructive, and symbolic framework. Each level of the building represents one element: the ground floor (Terra) is designed as a massive concrete base with high thermal inertia; the second floor (Aer) is transparent and lightweight, housing training and communal spaces; the third floor (Ignis) takes the form of a red ceramic cantilevered volume symbolizing fire; and the uppermost element (Aqua) is expressed through a water tank crowning the building. The project incorporates sustainable strategies through the use of ecological materials, laminated timber structures, geothermal energy, and an active roof with outdoor training areas and urban gardens, strengthening the relationship between function, symbolism, and the urban landscape.
